Argentine Wine

Argentina's wine history dates back to the mid-16th century when vines were imported from Chile just two years after they had arrived in that country. This is, by and large, a country of dry vineyards that require irrigation, but a combination of ancient vineyards and the extreme altitude of those vineyards can result in some extremely fine fluids. Malbec - a vine originally from the Loire Valley in France and the major component of the French appellation of Cahors - has found a home here and has almost become synonymous with Argentine red wine production. A similar white role is taken by Torrontes, a Muscat cross.
