Cabernet Sauvignon - Grape Variety

The home of Cabernet Sauvignon is Bordeaux where it forms the backbone of the wines of the Médoc. In the late 1990s, Cab Sauv was found to be the offspring of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, a crossing that took place somewhere in Bordeaux, most likely without the interference of man. Cabernet Sauvignon is also closely related to Merlot. This variety is grown around the world and is responsible for producing among the finest wines of France, Italy, Spain and elsewhere. It tends to produce deeply-coloured wines of bold structure and a signature aroma of blackcurrant.
