Garganega - Grape Variety

What happens to a variety over time is that it spreads and reproduces. The fact that Garganega (using assorted pseudonyms such as Grecanico Dorato and Malvasia de Manresa) appears as far afield as Sicily and Catalunya suggest that this is, indeed, an ancient vine. Its home is very much in the Veneto these days, where it is the backbone of Soave and a number of other white DOCs. Where yields are controlled, Garganega is capable of producing exceptionally fine and age-worthy wines, with great concentration.
