Ciliegiolo is a red wine grape from Italy and is one of the permitted grape varieties in the iconic Tuscan wine, Chianti. However, there are now several excellent examples of mono-varietal Ciliegiolo found in Umbria and Tuscany. The name Ciliegiolo is derived from the Italian word for cherry (ciliegia) which hints at this grape's aromatic and flavour profile. It is not an easy grape to grow. Its synonyms include Aleatico di Spagna, Ciliegino, Ciliegiolo di Spagna, Ciliegiuolo and Ciriegiuolo Dolce.
