Du Tertre is situated at one of the highest points in Margaux: a small rise (tertre, in French) of gravel. It perhaps lays claim to having been the earliest purveyor of chateau-bottled wine, since one of its owner in the 17th century was a renowned glass blower who created the jeroboam bottle and engaged in some bottling of his own wine. By the 1960s the property was in decline and was bought by Philippe Gasqueton, owner of Calon-Ségur. On the death of M Gasqueton in 1995 Du Tertre was sold to the Jelgersma family, oweners of Château Giscours. The vineyard here is unusual in that it is one single block of vines. There are 53.5 hectares of vines here.

"The 2012 du Tertre is quite open and expressive today, with hints of game, smoke, saddle leather, grilled herbs, dried flowers and mint that lift from the glass. An unusually perfumed and also delicate du Tertre, the 2012 is already quite open. The 2012 is not likely to be a long term ager, but it is quite pretty today. A closing hit of red-fleshed fruits rounds out the finish." Antonio Galloni
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
