Thomas Barton left Ireland for Bordeaux in 1722 and became a successful wine merchant in the city. He had already bought St Estèphe chateau Le Boscq when he took up the opportunity, in 1821, to buy Château Pontet-Langlois, which was subsequently renamed Langoa Barton. The next purchase was of one part of the giant Léoville estate: a vineyard that became Léoville-Barton that did not come with a corresponding chateau. Since then, both wines have been made at Langoa. Langoa is the only chateau in the same ownership as at the time of the 1855 classification of the Médoc.

"The 2020 Langoa Barton has a really gorgeous, very pure bouquet of crushed violets infusing black cherry, blueberry and black plummy scents. The new oak seems a little more pronounced compared to recent vintages and yet it is in sync with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins that disguise the structure underneath, the counterbalancing acidity line keeping everything focused and fresh. This is quite an audacious Langoa, and you what? It pulls it off." Neal Martin
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
