The estate of Thörle is based in Saulheim in the Rheinhesson and their recent Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder in German) vintages have been proclaimed as some of the finest reds produced in the country. Thörle has been run by brothers Johannes and Christoph since 2006. They work organically and are moving towards biodynamic culture. And, of course, besides Pinot Noir the brothers also grow Riesling. Yet this is Riesling from limestone: an altogether different and more Burgundian prospect to wines from elsewhere in Germany that might be grown on slate or loam.

There’s something of a cranberry crunch to the lightly creamy red fruit aromas. The palate gives fabulous upright grip and juicy, lip-smacking freshness. This is very long. What a superb success for Cristoph’s entry level Pinot! Bowes Wine original note
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
