Angélus lies on the St Emilion limestone plateau behind Château Canon and abutting the senior vineyards of Englishman Jonathan Maltus: Le Dôme etc. In 1909 Maurice de Bouard de La Forest inherited land that an ancestor had bought in this sector, adding 3.5 hectares of a vineyard called L'Angélus. So the property was born. Maurice continued to add vineyards over the years. in 1988 Hubert de Bouard took over the estate and quality has increased in his tenure. In 2012 Château Angélus - along with Château Pavie - was upgraded to Premier Grand Cru Classe A, joining Cheval Blanc and Ausone at the top of the St Emilion hierarchy.

"Blended of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet colored 2009 Angélus sings of blackberry preserves, warm black cherries, stewed plums and dried herbs with hints of Chinese five spice, fragrant earth, truffles and new leather. Full, rich, spicy and decadent in the mouth, it has a plush, velvety texture and well-knit freshness, finishing very long with tons of spicy layers. 99/100." Lisa Perrotti-Brown
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
