In the 17th century Troplong and a number of other St Emilion properties was owned by Raymond Desèze, a local abbot and it was Desèze who built the château of Troplong Mondot. It was, however, only a century later that the property gained its current name when a Raymond Troplong appended the name of the locale to his surname and hung it over the door. The estate was subsequently sold to a Belgian by the name of Monsieur Thienpont. Thienpont bought Vieux Château Certan a few years later, having to sell Troplong to fund the purchase. In 1936, Troploong was sold to Alexander Valette and it remained in the Valette family until the death of Christine Valette in 2014. It was Christine who, since taking the reins in 1980, had thoroughly modernised the property, bringing in Michel Rolland as consultant. In 2017, Troplong was bought by insurance company SOCR for a record price.

"Deep garnet colored, the 2009 Troplong Mondot bounds out of the glass with plum preserves, spice cake, mincemeat and potpourri scents plus suggestions of exotic spices, incense and a waft of balsamic. Full-bodied, super rich, concentrated and plushly textured, the hedonic fruit possesses loads of spicy layers and a very long and decadent finish. If you love wines you can stand a spoon up in, you're gonna go nuts over this extravagant beauty. 96/100." Lisa Perrotti-Brown
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
