Gruaud Larose has had a complicated history. First owned by a knight by the name of Gruaud, it was handed down in 1778 to a Joseph Sebastian de La Rose who appended his own surname the the property. For large parts of its history its ownership has been divided between different members of the same family, often with two separate wines being made on the estate. Finally, in 1935 the firm of Cordier managed to consolidate the estate under single ownership. In 1997 the property was sold to Jacques Merlaut, owner of Châteaux Chasse Spleen, La Gurgue, Haut Bages Libéral, Ferrière and Citran.

"Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Gruaud Larose delivers notes of warm cassis, blackberry compote and boysenberries with nuances of new leather, unsmoked cigars and bay leaves plus a medicinal waft. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is filled with generous black fruit preserves, sparked by herbal and earthy hints and supported with a firm, grainy texture, finishing with gorgeous freshness." Lisa Perrotti-Brown
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
