2018 Brunello di Montalcino, Máté

2018 Brunello di Montalcino, Máté

Ref: MATE180
Red  |  Still  |  14.5% ABV

Located in San Restituta – a highly desirable area of Montalcino, well-known for producing terroir driven wines of distinct expression – Máté are a family owned, organically certified estate, situated between Angelo Gaja and Gianfranco Soldera, two titans of the industry. Furthermore, the vineyards themselves were planted by none other than Fabrizio Moltard, Angelo Gaja’s agronomist, with the clones selected by Pierre Guillaume.

Situated at an altitude lying somewhere between 320-420 metres, the six and a half hectares of vines are grown on a soil composition made up of marl, galestro, tuffo, limestone and calcareous sandstone, with marine fossils also running through the vineyards, all of which lend their part to this unique and highly individual terroir, like nothing else within the region.

The chief wine maker and consultant at the estate is Carolo Ferrini, heralded by Jancis Robinson as, "…one of the most celebrated of the winemaking consultants that have been so vital to the Italian wine scene…” and having been awarded Winemaker of the Year on three separate occasions.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

"This is a beautiful colour in the glass: a pale tomato red. Aromas are of very red fruit, very domestic: things like red cherry and strawberry. And there are dried herbs twisted through that fruit. There’s stunning texture up front as it gores into the mouth, then the mineral freshness powers through to the very long finish, with its integrated, grippy tannins. This is quite delicious, with real juice and energy. Bowes Wine original note

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
