2010 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Jean Grivot

2010 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Jean Grivot

Ref: GRIV102
Red  |  Still  |  13.5% ABV

The Grivot family originally came from the Jura, but owned vines in the Hautes-Côtes since the 17th century. At the end of the eighteenth century, just before the French Revolution, Joseph Grivot sold his vineyards in the Hautes Côtes to settle in Vosne-Romanée, but it was his son Gaston who developed the domaine. In 1919 Gaston sold vines in the lesser areas to buy a large parcel of the grand cru Clos de Vougeot. You can still see the gate he built today. He was one of the first oenologists to graduate from Dijon University in the 1920s, followed by his son, Jean, a few years later.   Jean acquired a parcel of grand cru land in 1984: 31 ares of Richebourg. Jean was succeeded by his son Etienne in 1987. Etienne studied viti- and viniculture in Beaune and did work experience in California and elsewhere in France. He has experimented tirelessly to make what he feels are the best wines from his various terroirs.

"Amazing breadth and complexity. Flinty, smoky, crunchy red fruit – tremendous flavours. Absolutely delicious. Fantastic structure – determined acidity, pliable tannins. Redcurrant, cranberry, dry and vivacious. Brilliant." Richard Hemming MW

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
