There were Philipponnats growing vines and making wine in Champagne in the early 16th century, even supplying wine to the royal court. Philipponnat the champagne house was founded in 1910 and in 1935 it acquired its defining asset: the Clos des Goisses vineyard. This vineyard produces one of the region's finest wines and one of its pioneering single-terroir champagnes, part of which are aged in wood. To supply the other wines in its range, Philipponnat buys in 75% of the fruit is needs from growers with highly rated vineyards.

"Pale gold and so rich, rounded with yeasty complexity. Charles Philipponnat describes this as a great Chardonnay vintage, with ripe fruit, so much so that some wines have evolved too quickly. This is toasty but definitely not prematurely aged. It opened up to a touch of orange marmalade, honey and ginger. Stunning now but no hurry to drink this. A glamorous sort of wine but the richness is cut through by lovely fresh acidity. Great length." Julia Harding MW
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
