Querciabella was founded in 1974 and has been run biodynamically since 2000. The estate is owned by Milanese Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni, an industrial designer with a global and diverse business network.
I have long loved the wines of Querciabella (the name meaning beautiful oak). Whilst others go for extraction, power, lashings of oak, even blending with up to the legally permitted maximum 30% of international varieties like Merlot, thereby blurring (or altogether obliterating) any regional character, Querciabella quietly go about their business making wines of elegance, transparency and great beauty.

“Nose here is already quite complex, albeit a little introvert, showing light notes of both mint and pepper nuancing the thoroughly lovely red and darker fruit through which come a distinctly mineral something-or-other. The palate is intense from the front. This is one long and vibrant wine showing fresh and upright tannic structure. The juicy acidity sits within. A beautifully sculpted mouthful.” Caspar Bowes' note
“Bright and punchy, with terrific resonance, this wine shows just how compelling the vintage is.” 93/100. vinous.com
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
