There is evidence that vines were grown on this site by the Romans. In 1335 a prince of Luxembourg gifted an estate here to the Carthusian order and it was monks who cultivated this land for 500 years. With Napoleon's secularisation the property passed into the hands of the French government before being sold to Director General Valentin Leonardy of the French army. The current owner, Albert Behler, is the seventh generation of the same family to look after this great estate. Soils here are Devonian slate.

This is a glossy, satin concoction of the ripest fruits. We are veering towards ickypoo here, but without any sense of lard. Concentration not seen since Stephen Hawking decided to teach himself Sanskrit in ten minutes, and all the mineral complexity one could ask for. Dried and fresh fruits wash over the taster. There are hints of caramel. If one were sufficiently decadent to crave cheese made from the milk of an endangered species - snow leopard, perhaps - this is what one would select to accompany it. Heady, heavenly ambrosia. Bowes Wine original note
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
