Bages is a gravel plateau in Pauillac, Lynch derived from its erstwhile owner: one of the Irish families that migrated to Bordeaux in years past. In the 1930s, Jean-Charles Cazes took over the running of Lynch Bages. He was from a local family - had been born locally - and was already looking after Château Ormes de Pez in nearby St Estèphe. He succeeded in buying both properties just before WWII and the Cazes family have owned both properties since. In 1988, the Cazes family added the Graves property Château Villa Bel Air to their portfolio. Jean-Michel Cazes joined the family wine business in 1973 shortly after the family vineyard had been expanded through acquisition to something like 100 hectares. Jean-Michel modernised everything at Lynch Bages, making it the wine it is today.

"The medium to deep garnet colored 2009 Lynch Bages is boldly scented of crème de cassis, blackberry pie and baked plums with chocolate box, incense and underbrush suggestions plus a waft of bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, taut and well sustained in the mouth, it has a firm, grainy texture and a lively backbone lifting the black fruit core to a nice long finish. 96/100." Lisa Perrotti-Brown
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
