2010 Le Soula, Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes

2010 Le Soula, Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes

Ref: SOUL101
Red  |  Still  |  13% ABV

In the 1990s Roy Richards and Mark Walford were importing the Roussillon wines of Gérard Gauby into England. Gerard, convinced that vines in the cooler climate of the Fenouillèdes, high up in the foothills of the Eastern Pyrenees of South West France, had real potential for producing wine of great quality, suggested that they form a partnership to exploit them. Together they bought vines in the best sites, and an old house in the high altitude village of Saint Martin de Fenouillet, in the heart of the vineyards. The house became Soula’s first cellar and from the first vintage in 2001, the red and white wine began to establish its reputation for wines of purity, vitality and individuality. a reputation that remains to this day.

Tasting Notes

N.B. This is 71% Carignan, 25% Syrah and 4% Grenache from vineyards aged 16 to 65 years. Notes of raspberry flicker across the plum fruit framed by loamy mineral aromas. The palate is fresh from the word go and it picks up seamlessly integrated, super-fine tannin on its long road to a distant finish. Fruit is utterly delightful, and the whole thing shows impeccable control. Couth indeed: a well-mannered wine of great elegance, yet no lack of concentration. Bowes Wine original note

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
