There have been Barges active in wine in the northern Rhône Valley since the mid-19th century and they started bottling some of their own wine in the 1920s (they were among the first to do so here). However, it wasn't until the 1960s that production stepped up to commercial levels and by 1974 they were bottling 100% of their production. Gilles Barge was President of the Côte Rôtie Growers` Syndicat and the first among his peers to attend wine making college.

Medium ruby colour. This is red fruited on the nose: currants, cherries. Smoky bacon. This is medium weight, with rich, velvet tannins. There's great drive and intent in this wine. The fruit is red, a touch floral. There are minerals right up to the full, chunky finish. Fresh and long. Bowes Wine original note
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
