A part of the old Léoville estate which included the vineyards of Léovilles Poyferré and Lascases. And there is no château of Léoville Barton, the wine being made in the cellars of its stablemate Langoa. Thomas Barton arrived in Bordeaux from Ireland in the early 18th century and set himself up as a wine merchant in the city. His first foray into property came with the purchase of Château Le Boscq in St Estèphe. There followed the purchase of what would become known as Langoa Barton, then that portion of the Léoville estate that would be renamed in honour of the family name. This is a 47 hectare vineyard from which emanates one of the slowest maturing wines of the Médoc.

"Deep crimson with a little evolution at the rim. Meaty, concentrated nose. Uncompromisingly dry but the tannins are not too painful. Just starting to come round and really not that different from this wine in a more successful vintage. But strictly for classicists." Jancis Robinson
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
