As is so often the case, the name of this property comes from the locale and the surname of its erstwhile owner, A Monsieur Albert Macquin. Macquin's name should be known by every wine lover, since it was he that conceived of a solution to the ravaging of the European vineyard by Phylloxera i.e. he first suggested grafting the vines onto American rootstocks. The renaissance of this property started in 1990 when a now-ubiquitous Stephane Derononcourt joined the team, followed by Nicolas Thienpont a few years later. The first wine of the modern era was the 1998. The vineyard is organic and has a multiplicity of terroirs.

"The dense plum/purple-colored 1999 offers up aromas of truffles, underbrush, espresso, black cherries, and roasted meats. The wine is powerful and muscular with high extract and mouth-searing tannin, it is an atypically backward effort for the vintage. Patient connoisseurs who admire wines with this level of intensity will be handsomely repaid for their discipline. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020." Robert Parker
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
