Over the years Altesino have been innovators in the commune of Montalcino, introducing the "Cru" concept in 1975 with a Montosoli bottling, being the first to experiment with barriques in '79, producing the first Grappa from a winery in 1977 and doing the first futures offer for Brunello 1985. The estate manages 44 hectares of vines split into parcels in a number of different Montalcino terroirs.

"Bright, dark red. Complex nose melds cherry, sweet spices, herbs and woodsy, truffley underbrush. Juicy, brisk and penetrating on the palate, with highly aromatic but rather cool red berry and floral flavors. Very youthful wine, finishing with lovely length and lift, and late notes of currant, cherry and leather. The tannins dust the front teeth. Needs six or seven years of additional bottle aging." Stephen Tanzer
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
