A real artisan producer making organic hand-crafted wines. References in the archive of Montefalco, a beautiful Umbrian hill town (aren’t they all?), document the presence of the Bea family in this region as early as 1500. This tiny estate is the classic Italian Fattoria, producing wine, raising farm animals for trade and home consumption and working the land to produce olives, fruits and vegetables. Paolo Bea, the senior member of the family, is the guiding
force behind the production of these intensely pure wines, assisted by his son, Giuseppe, who farms the vineyards and Giampero who looks after the vinification. No herbicides or pesticides are used at Paolo Bea. He believes that wine is an expression of nature and looks forward to the differences in each harvest (hence the Rosso de Veo in 2002). The wines are produced in the traditional way; grapes are handpicked and bottled without filtration

In the glass, this looks quite mature: medium-deep, with a garnet bowl and gradual fade to a mahogany rim. The nose is really rather fabulous, offering aromas of smoke and sweet black cherry and damson. There's almost a hint of papaya here, plus grilled meat and spice. I wonder how well it would go at a Caribbean beach barbecue! The palate is cool and medium weight and highly structured. There's lovely fresh grip and lots of substance. This is full of nutty-textured, full tannin and almost glassy minerals. A really very long wine indeed and a supremely elegant and complex one. It develops a hint of orange as it breathes. Superbly energetic and crying out for roast boar... Bowes Wine original note
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
