2010 Château Ausone, St Emilion

2010 Château Ausone, St Emilion

Ref: 102BORD
Red  |  Still  |  14.5% ABV

Purportedly on the site of the residence of Decimius Magnus Ausonius, statesman and poet in the fourth century AD, Ausone sits at the western side of the St Emilion commune on steep, south-facing slopes. After a feud between branches of the family (during which quality had suffered and Ausone's reputation languished), the Vauthier family became sole proprietors in the early 1990s. Under the Vauthiers (and the consultancy of Michel Rolland)  quality has soared. Ausone employs one of the highest proportions of Cabernet Franc of any Bordeaux vineyard.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

"The Ausone 2010 has an intoxicating bouquet with outstanding definition and precision, a light marine influence of seaweed and brine that becomes more accentuated with time. The palate is very precise with fine tannins, quite sharp dark blackberry and wild strawberry fruit, a dash of white pepper sprinkled over the back palate that builds to an elegant spicy finish. Not the "biggest" wine against its peers, but it oozes class. This is an intoxicating Saint Emilion from Alain Vauthier and his team. Tasted January 2014." Neal Martin

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
