2018 Lorcher Krone Riesling Trocken Grand Cru, Eva Fricke

Ref: FRIC180
White  |  Still  |  13% ABV

The daughter of two doctors, Eva Fricke was born in a small village in Lower Saxony. Inspired by an adventurous grandmother, she decided to take a summer job after her penultimate year of school on a vineyard in South Africa. It was here that Eva’s love affair with the grape first began. Thereafter, she studied viticulture and oenology in Geisenheim, working at several vineyards around the world, including Ch. Cissac in Haut-Médoc; Schloss Johannisberg in the Rheingau; Castello di Verduno in Piedmont; Dominio de Pingus in Ribera del Duero; and Pepper Tree in Australia’s Hunter Valley. After graduating, Eva worked at the Tatachilla winery in southern Australia but soon returned to the Rheingau to work as J. B. Becker’s assistant manager. In 2004, producing her first vintage in 2006. She grows only Riesling on the steep slopes of Lorch in the Rheingau. Some of her vines are more than 45 years old, producing wines that perfectly exhibit the minerality of the slate and quartzite soils.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

There's a whiff of gunflint hovering here above the fruit of lime juice and lime leaf, all dotted with spice. There's a moment, when this goes in the mouth, when it's plush, cool, and peary, then quickly it becomes firm, with real spice to the earthy, granular grip. A very long wine and an increasingly earthy one. The finish is dense and loaded with green apple acidity. An utterly fabulous Riesling of ultimate expressiveness. Utterly transparent; stunningly pure, and loaded with character. Bowes Wine original note

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
